Had a nice surprise yesterday (Tuesday) at work. I spent most of the morning in a meeting and came back to my desk to find a note that my cousin Cheryl had stopped by. She came back later with a friend and the three of us went out to lunch. It was nice to do something different for lunch – I usually just eat in the break room here at work.
I broke down and turned on the kitchen air conditioner yesterday. When I got home it was 87 degrees in the house – and that was after we had closed and darkened the house as much as possible! Of course, a cold front moved through a couple of hours later and eliminated the need for it, but it sure felt good while I had it on!
Survived the weekend. I didn’t get done everything that I wanted to get done, but made good headway. Finished my tote bags and started on two baby quilts. I found out one of our friends is due to have her baby any day – I thought she wasn’t due for a couple of weeks yet! Needless to say, that’s one of the quilts I’m working on now.
Managed to get a few more plants added to the new landscaping. At the rate we’re going, we should have it finished in a couple of years, but progress is still progress. I made the mistake of going to the greenhouse and then planting in a tank top without sunscreen. Even with being outside a total of about an hour, I did a lovely job of burning my shoulders and upper arms. Chad is the one I really feel sorry for. He did some weeding, trimming and other assorted yard work yesterday morning so I could sew and then helped me select and plant the new additions to the landscaping. Today he looks like a boiled lobster – and feels like one too.
Don’t feel too sorry for him though, his sunburns tend to fade quickly so it won’t bother him for too long.
Well, I suppose I should get to work. I’ve been here almost an hour already and haven’t really done anything. And I have to leave early in order to get to another appointment on time. I really hate road construction!
The photo transfer from Yahoo! to Flickr worked – a couple of small glitches, but nothing that couldn’t be fixed. I’m considering it a success!
Right now, all of the photos are available for public viewing. I may make some of them (I’m thinking of the engagement/wedding photos) private at a later time, but for the time being they will stay public unless otherwise requested.
Please go check them out here or by clicking the Flickr link in the ‘Other Places to Find Me’ box on the right side of the page. I have some others on my computer that need to be uploaded – I’ll try to get those added this weekend.
It’s almost time to head home (yea for the weekend!) and I need to finish a couple of things. Have a wonderful weekend!
Wow – what a difference a day makes! I was home yesterday with a blinding migraine headache. Slept about half the day and spent the other half kind of groggy, but I feel like a new person today!! I haven’t been sleeping well for the past few weeks so I’m guessing that the headache was caused by sleep deprivation. It’s so nice to be able to function like a normal person!
On other notes . . .
I’m still waiting for my notification from Flickr that my photos have successfully migrated from Yahoo!. Once that comes through, I’ll get links up to different sets so y’all can see what I’ve been up to lately.
I’m onto a new sewing project too – a tote bag large enough for overnight trips. I’m making one in the smaller size (called a ‘Day Tote’) to test out the instructions first. Spent last night cutting pieces for both and started sewing the small one. I’m just shy of halfway with about an hour of sewing. Hopefully this trend holds and I can get the two bags knocked out this week. I have several quilts I should be working on, including one for a prize for a raffle associated with the Wynot Centennial celebration in September.
Of course we wouldn’t be happy unless we have part of the yard or house torn up. Right now it’s both, although we are just about finished converting two small rooms upstairs into a library for all of our (mostly mine, but not all) books. Chad thinks we need to start issuing library cards since we have such a collection! We’ve begun the arduous task of replacing the windows in our house and are anxiously awaiting the first 4 windows so we can get the worst of the windows on the main level of the house replaced. We’re trying to hold off turning on the air conditioners until then, but these past few warm days are testing our resolve!
We are also in the middle of some landscaping as well. Because of some routine maintenance on our storm water disposal, we now have one edge of our yard that cannot be mowed without severe risk to life and limb. So we are planting most of it to flowering perennials and covering the rest in rocks and groundcovers. Due to the size of our lot, this stretch is almost 200 feet long, which requires a lot of work, rocks, and plants (not to mention money!) to fill. I’m viewing this as a long-term project. We have also installed regulation size horseshoe pits and finished landscaping a couple of smaller areas that we had started last summer.
Whew, this update has gotten a little out of hand! I didn’t realize I had so much to talk about! Guess I’d better end this now and get back to work.
I feel like I’m walking through a dense fog today. Everything I do takes 3 times as much effort as it should. Simple things like moving the computer mouse that are usually controlled by subconscious thoughts require a conscious effort. My concentration is non-existant. Every joint in my body is stiff. Hopefully this is a result of my recent lack of sleep and not something more serious. I really want a nap – 4 hours sounds like a nice round number.
The evening commute should be interesting, if I manage to make it through the rest of the day.
I guess I’m going to attempt this again. I had a blog before, but deleted it because I didn’t think anyone read it. Now I have found out that quite a few friends and family members used that to ‘keep tabs’ on me! So, after some thought, I’m starting another blog. It’s going to take a little time to get everything up and running the way I want (my blogroll and Flickr accounts specifically), so please be patient.
